Nationalism is not more than Humanism — Comparative story of two councilor of South Asia

Written by –Golam Rabbani Nayan bangalee

Nationalism is an infantile disease. It is the measles of mankind.Nationalism is hunger for power tempered by self deception.
Always a humanism kind of man can be patriot .The the patriot is proud of his country for what it does, and nationalist is proud of his country no matter what it does .The first attitude creates a feeling of responsibility but the second a feelingof blind arrogance that leads to conflict. Nationalism has a way of oppressing others..
I don’t believe in nationalism .I think its a bunch of slogans ,its a bunch of poor attempt at creating pride .My problem with nationalism is that it becomes exclusionary .We start to exclude people.
My name is Golam Rabbani .I am a licensed social worker of Michigan State. And now working as a local board member of JFON Justice for our neighbour.I also a regional manager of Young Peace Builders . Now i am living in Traverse city . I came from Bangladesh in 2015 where I was a foreign Attorney of human rights and an advocate in the Bangladesh Supreme Court . Today i would like to emphasize a clear picture of present situation about Rohingya and other releted human rights issue with some comparative study .of South Asian present conditions and culture.
Basically i am a grassroots level social worker and researcher.I spent my whole life at Mirpur Millat Camp Bihari area where a minority group of people speaks urdu..I have very good feeling for that distressed community without considering their country of origin.color, ethnicity and language. As a human right activist i do beleive that every body has a right to live with dignity and honor. For long time they has been deprived and their living condition is terrible. They are always treated as a people of enemy country though they are stranded Pakistani. They got their national ID and voter registration after long struggle but they could not establish their local leadership .My family is still trying to enhance their leadership in the community and they could raise their voice and also could focus their existance problem what they are facing day to day life daily . Now they are citizen of the country they have rights to get involve in the main steam politics and should participate at least local govt election . Unfortunately this Govt discriminate them and still playing a blame game against that innocent people. My mom Begum Meherunnessa Huq worked for these people last two decades and she is the only elected officials who works with them and has been working as a City Councilor for long time . She is fighting for them to ensure their rights, providing them electricity ,gas, water and other utility services. Every election Bihari people always treat her as their representaive but as a women she tried her best but still we are expecting one more male representative from their group .
I personally intimately understand their reality. I have a long term strategic plan but due to non cooperative attitude of the Govt we always meet resistance in our support. Now we are educating them and preparing them to practice perfectly our language Bangla and motivate them to adopt morre bengoli culture what we owned.
I am more concern about their internal issue and also aware of the perception of the Bangali community what is their feelings in mind.Normally lots of NGO and INGO worked for them to ensure their rights and improve their living condition but unfortunately little research has been done with that commuity to find out the analytical solution for them to sustain their program in a long run and very important issue is support first generation children of that bihari people to adjust with our society as they are the born citizen of Bangladesh and automatically established their rights as well.
So i am interested to work with your organisation as a volunteer researcher and want to dedicate my time for writting blog and aware the people of Bangladesh by publishing my column in daily Bangla newspaper. My mom as a City Corporation representative and also an elected leader of this Bihari Area she is working in her own way and helping one to one everybody to everyday. She is providing them a certificate of Nationalism,She is providing them with birth certificates ,passport verification, helping them for opening bank account, even assisting their fueneral arrangement if necessary,That is undoubtedly a very strong part of their life for living as a standred group and everything is very tough for them to get whatever they need for livelihood. My mom is incharge of that area and always bargaining with the government for their demand avting on behalf of them community as a responsible guardian.
Now we creale a team for them teaching correct Bangla, and encouraging them to become a public representative and influencing their people to contesed at the local govt election .As long as they could not raise their voice as a part of the citizen of Bangladeshi suffer will continue to their fate.
My mother Begum Meherunnessa Huq is very populer among the urdu speaking people at my area mirpur and they are her the primary voter of her every election. My mom is also popular as amom ,everybody called her mom.She got 120 thousand vote her last election. She elected as a city councilor .On the other hand in Myanmar there is a state secretary her name is Aung Sun Suu key ,she is very popular in the world and also a noble lauret .But if you cpmpare 2 women in south Asia you can find out the ragedy.
I just want to recapitulation of the past history for better undersatanding . You all are aware that we were independent on 1973 from Pakistan .During the liberation war Pakistani millitary killed and massacured the whole country . More than 3 million people were killed on that genocide and 300 thousand were raped .Lots of house officec arsoned by fire.My mother was not married she was young and 10th grade student and her family were very vulnerable situatin some how they saved their life but whole home burnt by the millitary and Pakistani people thought that everybody died and burnt but luckily thay could saved them.So it was very common and normal my mom should be angry with urdu speaking pakistani people and anybody at her situation would react but the reality is total different .After my mom marraige she came to my father house and my father bought a house at mirpur area where urdu speaking people lives.Bangladesh won that war but few people of Pakistani could not go back their home country .They are the Strandred group and fell into a very uncomfortable situation which was not their expectation . They were totally helpless and it was very shamefull for them because they were informed that their people and their military tortured these Bangladeshi people lot .It was really hard time for them because Bangladeshi people on that area always bulling them .shaming them .But Government of new independent country thought that these half million people of Pakistan are their burden but not possible to deport because country had no financial postion ,thatswhy Bangladeshi govt decided to give them citizen if they want but urdu speaking pro pakistani strandred group denied the proposal odf Bangladeshi govt because they thought that their Govt of Pakistan will help them to go back to Pakistan ,It was 1972 my mother were staying that are with my dad and i was born that area 1973 . My mom join as a teacher that area on 1975 and from that very day she decided that we should not treat that minority group as our enemy country citizen . As they are belonging here and as long as they are here they are human being and we should spport them . love them. Forgive them because they were innocent ,If we think and judge our self at their situation we all should support their own country and they thought that Bangladesh never wim but that was their feelings for their country ,tat was not sin. My mother tried to convience other Bangladeshi people in favor of that Pakistani urdu people.and motivating them not to bulling and mental harrase and what happened at past just try to forget and rebuild the society new way ……some body listen but not all .Till today my mom is fighting for their right as an oppressed lady and also her total family were victim by them .She beleive that darkness cannot drive out darkness ,only light can do that ….she alwys said to everybody You reclaim your power by loving what you were taught by hate …..Pakistani tortured us thats true thats why they are heinous but why we will follow them by torturing innocent women childreen old people .
But now what is happening last year Myanmar Government without any reasing conducted an operation this is call ethnic cleansing and they killed more than 10000 innocent Rohingya and burnt thousand of people …..One million people displaced from their own country . They voted for Aung sun Suu Ky and she became a state Councilor for their vote but she was totally silent .What a rediculous. I want to compare these two lady of south Asia . One is State councilor and othe is city coucilor . one is highly educated and other not that much . One visited round the world and noble laurett but other came from rural area and spent her whole life to serve in the slam area .But what a different and how we will judge .
I just mentioned here a comarative study to inform the mental attitude of Bangladeshi people and their big and kind hearted attitude . Begum Meherunnessa has no power …she even not the leader of the running rulling party councilor of the country and inspite of lots of obstacle she is acting strongly boldly with love and mankind . Still 3 million Bangladeshi people are strandred in Pakistan they are suffering lot ,not even getting any citizenship last 45 years they were oppressed by Pakistani govt …Still 6milliom Bangla speaking people are in India at Asam state but tortured by the Govt because they speak Bangla and they flet during Bangladesh Pakistam war fro Bangladesh to India to save their life but not return but facing a big crisis …… Why the politician using more the nationalism rather than humanism.
Aung San Suu Kyi is winner of the Nobel Prize for Peace in1991,She held multiple governmental parts since 2016,including that of state counselor, which essentially made her the de facto leader of the country.Aung San Suu Kyi is implicated in the ethnic cleansing of the Rohingya Muslim minority in Myanmar..The biggest tragedy here is she is the one person in the country who really could change attitudes towards the Rohingya. The Myanmar millitary killed Rohingya women, menand children, raped Rohingya women and girls ,and burnt entire Rohingya village. The Myanmar authorities were trying to stop the world from seeing whats actually happening on the ground. This is ethnic cleansing, these are crimesagainst humanity,As a top leader of Myanmar how Aung sansuu kyi can avoid her responsibilities where she got support her entire life from Rohingya .
Begum Meherunnessa a bangladeshi city Counseler despite of her all local and govt pressure she stands in favor of Pakistani Urdu people whos were tortured them after all Meherun priority the humanism first

Reality is that what level you are or what class you are does not rellevent if your mental attitude does not cry for the humanity or if you only crazy for power by using nationalism type word nothing can change . Here Meher ness is a very lower grade grass root level leader but her feelings is so strong that she is still fighting for that community which community once upon a time burnt her house but Aung San suu kyi is such a great level leader and state counselor she is burning the humanity .

Be the reason some one smiles,be the reason someone feels loved, and believe in the goodness in people whatever your people react for you deed if you feel your prpose for make the people smile it is humanism ,Begum Meherunnessa emphasis only that part of culture where politics does not assist her for

While world watches Rohingya crisis, Burma Christian minority faces ‘cleansing’

Burma’s campaign against Rohingya Muslims has taken the spotlight off a protracted offensive against another minority, this time one that is predominantly Christian.

In the north of the country, the government is also intensifying operations against the Kachin. One of the longest-running wars in the world, it has intensified dramatically in recent months, with at least 10,000 people displaced since January alone, according to the United Nations.

While attention has been dominated by the conflict that has seen 700,000 Rohingya forced into exile, the two disputes share a tragic theme,

Just like the Rohingya, the Kachin have begun to realise that “the army wants to wipe us out”, he said.

“This is a war to cleanse us.”

The Kachin, have fought for greater autonomy in this predominantly Buddhist nation since 1961.

But their campaign is part of a much broader struggle for power pitting the ethnic Burman majority, who control the all-powerful military and top government posts, against dozens of ethnic minorities.
some scholar and intellectual mentioned that Rohingya people were Muslim and may be international community was not that much concern for them but Katchin people the latest crisis against Christian people now how you will evaluate. Ultimately we should consider as a whole as a human being and should consider it as a humanitarian ground .
If Meheruness hugs their enemy people and love them why Aung Suu could not consider their own people and not considering on humanitarian ground . This is not a comparison of two councilor of two different countries but of course an example of feelings and if you are a big person your mind and attitude should be big but unfortunately here two lady are two consequences and Suu key is far above than Meheruness but mind is so miser.one is emphasizing nationalism other is humanism but remember Nationalism is not above than humanism
